Now that this club is back on the road, I am open to suggestions for contests. What does everybody think?

What is Artist Pride? It is a club that accepts all types of artists, from painters to poets to cartoonists to writers, but it has one requirement: TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK.

Too often you see a Deviant who submits a poem/sprite/furry/painting/whatever, then proceeds to flame his own work! "It sucks, but oh well." "I’m so sorry..."

Saying those things makes you feel better right now and you may be pointing out real flaws. But how do such hostile comments help you improve? How could belittling your work build the confidence needed in order to be a daring and original artist?

Do these artists have any idea how bad it looks when they put such comments next to their art? It doesn’t make you look modest when you put that. To be blunt, it makes you seem like you have some issues to deal with.

So what if the artist has tried and tried again, but feels that he or she never improves? That’s no excuse to call your own hard work trash. Do you honestly believe that you are the only artist to ever struggle? I hate to break it to you, but struggle and work are a normal part of being an artist, author, and human being. You may be in a rut right now, but pessimism won't help.

Faith in yourself and the ability to view your work realisticly will. You need to find the good traits in your work, however scarce they may be right now. You must be able to give yourself appropriate and realistic criticism to prepare yourself for the real world. You must have the courage to see your work for what it is instead of tossing it away with a stupid comment. You must have the confidence to take pride in your art.

This is a club for any artist who is proud of his work. If you tend to put yourself down, but want to start critiquing yourself healthily, then joining this club is a good start.
